New Songs
After successfully touring behind the award-winning album The Future, Cohen was awarded a Governor General's Performance Arts Award for his contribution to Canadian music in 1993 and was the subject of an hour-long CBC Radio retrospective called The Gospel According to Leonard Cohen. Cohen also published a collection of poems and songs called Stranger Music and released his second live album Cohen Live in 1994.
New Songs
Interest in Cohen only grew, however, with a tribute album called Tower of Song being released in 1995. According to Ira Nadel's 1996 Cohen memoir Various Positions: A Life of Leonard Cohen, Cohen flirted with the idea of recording an album of 14 short songs during this period, but eventually scrapped the project. (One song, "Never Any Good," would turn up on the 1997 release More Best of Leonard Cohen.) In June 1999, Cohen returned to his L.A. duplex to live with his daughter and began collaborating with Sharon Robinson (co-writer of "Everybody Knows" and "Waiting for the Miracle") on what would become Ten New Songs.
Robinson produced, co-arranged, co-wrote and sang on Ten New Songs, making it a true collaboration. Cohen gave Robinson some lyrics he had written and she built the music around them. Cohen was so impressed with Robinson's demos that she ended up singing all the songs with him, including several leads. "At his insistence", Robinson clarified to Mojo's Sylvie Simmons. "It's ironic, isn't it, that the man who's got this voice that women swoon over just wants to hide it away?" The album was recorded by Robinson and Cohen in near isolation, with Leanne Ungar engineering and Bob Metzger adding guitar to the LP's first single, "In My Secret Life". In 2010, Robinson spoke about the recording with Cohen biographer Anthony Reynolds:
"In My Secret Life", a song that wound up being an ode to unrequited love, became the album's first single with an accompanying music video that was filmed in Montreal at Habitat 67. Other songs, such as "Alexandra Leaving" (based on "The God Abandons Antony", also translated as "The God Forsakes Antony", a poem by Constantine P. Cavafy, published in 1911) and "You Have Loved Enough", imply departures of some sort or another.
In terms of singles this week, one of OCC's absolute favourites Maisie Peters releases the strongest single yet (and one of the best pop songs of the year so far, full stop) in the form of the shimmering Lost The Breakup. Produced by WolfCousins member OzGo, Lost The Break Up is capital P-pop that trades the intelligent folk-pop of Maisie's last single Body Better for a scintillating synth backing that sees Maisie get over the boy that broke her heart (feel you, girl) by being the best version of herself. It's something of a cousin to John Hughes Movie (one of our favourite songs of 2021) and Maisie herself has said that, if you let it, this song will change your life. We're beginning to believe her.
Bebe Rexha, fresh off the release of the 70s disco-tinged Heart Wants What It Wants, feeds you the next single from her forthcoming third album Bebe. Call On Me is a brilliant mix of its parent albums Fleetwood Mac aesthetics with the Y2K Europop of I'm Good (Blue), as well as joining the ranks of songs like Lobe Myself by Hailee Steinfeld and Touch of my Hand by Britney Spears about...loving yourself. Read more about what Bebe told us about Call On Me here.

New Hampshire has the unusual distinction of having nine state songs, with one of them being "official" and the others "honorary." This came about by legislative votes over a quarter of a century, and was finally agreed upon in the 1977 session.
Three months after this Board was launched, the Legislature enacted another song law, effective June 15. This statute added four more songs to the listing of state songs, with a proviso that if the Board did not designate any of this quartet as the official state song, they would become "honorary." The Board heard and considereda total of 21 songs, all submitted by New Hampshire residents.
It's honestly just good to have a stream of new Kanye West music on a regular basis. West and Lamar complement each other well, and the beat they rap over is insane, sampling several songs including West's own "New God Flow." "No More Parties in LA" is good, but it seems like the two rappers are just getting started.

There's lots to experience with the huge 2.0 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, from brand-new locations to new and returning characters. Those who are interested in K.K. Slider songs will no doubt be happy to learn that the free update also added 12 new tracks for players to listen to as they enjoy their island life.
These new songs join the other 98 K.K. Slider Songs players can get in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Once obtained, the tracks can be played on any item that plays music. This includes the new music boxes that were added along with the above 12 songs in the 2.0 update.
The Nook Stop terminal will have a new, randomly-selected song available for purchase every day; each one costing 3,200 bells. This pool includes all of the original music tracks as well, however, so, with 103 songs to pull from, it's probably better to request the tracks from the musician directly in order to quickly obtain all of the new K.K. songs in the 2.0 update.
This means players will have to wait 12 weeks to get all of the new K.K. Slider songs by requesting them, though they could technically time travel to get their hands on them a little sooner. They'll need to be careful if they do decide to go down this route though, as perishable items like turnips will turn bad if the game detects that the player has traveled backward in time.
As mentioned above, the addition of 12 new songs brings the total number of K.K. Slider tracks in Animal Crossing: New Horizons up to an impressive 110. It's worth noting, however, that three of these songs (Hazure01, Hazure02, and Hazure03) are unavailable to players, while another three (Drivin', Animal City, and Farewell) can only be obtained if players request them directly from K.K. K.K. Birthday, on the other hand, cannot be requested and is only available on the player's birthday.
